TSPMG is a strong supporter of early detection programs. Our Breast Care Center, located in the KPGA Glenlake Medical Center, provides centralized services for all breast care diagnostic procedures. Staffed by three surgeons, a breast PA, a manager and two breast care coordinators, the Center reduces the need for members to travel to numerous outside locations for these procedures. The center offers a range of services and support:

  • Consultation with a breast surgeon
  • Ultrasound-guided breast biopsy
  • Stereotactic breast biopsy
  • Breast MRI and MRI guided biopsy
  • Breast care coordination with an RN to assist in guidance of care
  • Direct phone line for questions regarding care
  • Pathology results within 72 hours of biopsy
  • Educational materials and other support services
  • Direct link to Behavioral Health services
  • High Risk Breast Clinic
  • Survivorship Clinic

Our Breast Care Center is the first area in the Georgia Region to feature a multi-specialty team approach. The new Multidisciplinary Breast Care (MDBC) team is focused on improving the quality and convenience of care our members receive by building on our integrated health care approach, promoting clinician-clinician and clinician-patient communication and supporting our goal of delivering high-quality care.

Members who have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer and who are expected to benefit from this type of approach will be contacted by a member of our Breast Care Center and offered an appointment with the MDBC team. This appointment will include a coordinated series of same-day visits with a breast surgeon, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist, as well as a group consult with the physicians from each specialty. (Plastic Surgeon also if part of treatment recommendation)

After all of the physicians have examined the member, they will meet with the patient and family members to provide an assessment based on their individual expertise and in consultation with each other. This ensures that everyone involved in the care of the member understands the treatment plan and helps avoid the need for the patient to interpret and decide upon differing viewpoints.

An Example of Coordinated Care

This new video, featuring members of the Kaiser Permanente of Georgia Breast Care Team, takes a look at our coordinated approach to care. When a member receives a cancer diagnosis, a multidisciplinary team helps guide them through the process every step of the way.
