FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
ATLANTA – (January 11, 2016): In keeping with their mission to help communities thrive, several Kaiser Permanente medical offices in metro Atlanta will soon provide access to fresh, health-promoting meals through Good Measure MealsTM (GMM), a social enterprise of nonprofit nutrition agency, Open Hand Atlanta.
In addition, Kaiser Permanente employees and the community at large will benefit from access to these gourmet quality, portion- and calorie-controlled meal plans to help them achieve weight loss, manage chronic health conditions such as diabetes or hypertension, or simply eat in a healthy way without the investment of time typically involved in planning, shopping for, and preparing healthy meals at home. An added benefit – 100% of the net proceeds from GMM meal plan sales go directly to support Open Hand’s community nutrition programs provided at no charge to underserved individuals who would otherwise go without.
With seasonally-inspired menus designed by an experienced team of GMM registered dietitians and chefs, GMM meal plans are nutritionally balanced and meet or exceed nutritional standards set by the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
GMM provides a simple and convenient online ordering platform, giving customers the flexibility to choose plans with 1, 2 or 3 meal(s) per day and a variety of calorie levels. Meals are delivered every Monday and Thursday to over 90 pick-up locations throughout metro Atlanta, now including several Kaiser Permanente medical offices.
“We believe that food is medicine, and eating a balanced diet combined with physical activity can prevent and even reverse chronic medical conditions that negatively impact the quality of life of so many Georgians,” said Mary Wilson, MD, executive medical director of Kaiser Permanente of Georgia. “As a nonprofit health care organization, our mission is to improve the health of the communities we serve. By partnering with Good Measure Meals, we can provide access to affordable, healthy meals not only to our members, but to anyone who finds our medical offices a convenient pick-up location.”
“We share Kaiser Permanente’s goal to help build a healthier community and are proud to work together to ensure their members, employees and many others in metro Atlanta can benefit from our delicious and health-promoting cuisine,” said Jess White, GMM Senior Vice President.
The following Kaiser Permanente clinics will be the first to feature Good Measure Meals starting mid- January 2016, with other locations to follow later in the year:
